My Project

What is the best way to engage parents in their children's learning? One effective approach is by allowing students to create home-and-school-connected art projects.

My students are part of a Mandarin Dual Language program, and they love learning about holidays from different cultures.

With the Lunar New Year approaching, I would like to request various art supplies, such as colorful cardstock and paint markers, so my students can create festive art projects to take home. These projects offer a fun and engaging way for families to connect. Parents can discuss what their child learned at school, exchange ideas, and encourage meaningful conversations—all while celebrating their child’s creativity.

Our school is a Title I school, with over 80% of students qualifying for free lunch. Many parents work multiple jobs and long hours, and some face challenges with academic language skills. A take-home art project provides an accessible way for parents to engage with their child’s education. It doesn’t require extensive time or resources, and art serves as a universal language that everyone can enjoy and understand.
