Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The items I'm requesting—Lunar New Year decorations and candy—will help create an immersive and engaging learning environment where students can explore cultural traditions in a hands-on, fun way. The decorations will bring the festive spirit of the Lunar New Year into the classroom, sparking curiosity and conversations about the significance of the holiday, its symbols, and customs. The candy will serve as a treat to celebrate the occasion and also provide an opportunity for students to learn about the food traditions associated with the holiday. These materials will not only enhance their understanding of the Lunar New Year but also foster a sense of inclusivity, encouraging students to share and learn from one another’s diverse backgrounds.

My goal is to create a vibrant and inclusive classroom celebration of the Lunar New Year that promotes cultural awareness, respect, and appreciation among my students.

Through this project, I hope to engage students in discussions about traditions, history, and the significance of the holiday, while also allowing them to experience aspects of the celebration through decoration and treats. Ultimately, I want my students to develop a broader understanding of the world around them and appreciate the richness of different cultures.

My students come from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds, making our classroom a unique and vibrant community. They are curious, eager to learn, and always excited to explore new ideas. What makes them special is their openness to learning about different cultures and their willingness to share their own experiences. Many of my students may not be familiar with the traditions of the Lunar New Year, and this celebration will provide them with items to celebrate.
