My Project

Holidays are celebrated by people all over the world, and books are a fabulous way of introducing these events to children in school. My students come from a variety of cultural backgrounds, so it is important that they feel represented. There are even some American holidays that children might be unfamiliar with, like Juneteenth, that students should know the origins of.

This project will help bring books about different holidays to children who may have never learned about them.

I look at these books as teaching tools, wherein we can appreciate different cultures even though we don't celebrate of the holidays. Reading books is a great way to expose children to cultures and customs they are unfamiliar with, and open their minds and hearts to acceptance.
