My Project

This year we have been celebrating a variety of winter holidays from around the world. For the last several years we have learned about Christmas traditions and Hanukkah. Last year we added Kwanzaa to learn about. While teaching the students, I have learned so much about other holidays and traditions, so it's not just the students learning.

This year, I would love to be able to add Chinese New Year to the list.

This afternoon, I spent time researching and learning about the holiday and found some wonderful activities that I would like to do with the students. We will start by hanging the large dragon from the ceiling! If that doesn't get their attention, I don't know what will. Then we will read Ruby's Wish and write down our own wishes to put in the red envelopes. Then we will string the gold feng shui coins together to help bring in wealth and prosperity and ward off evil. Finally, we will end our unit with a tasty fortune cookie. If we can't eat a whole Chinese meal, we will just skip right to dessert!
