This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I serve a diverse population of students with a range of capabilities. All of my students qualify for the free lunch program and most of them have challenging home environments with many obstacles in their path; however, those obstacles do not define my students and all of my students fight to be present in school and try their hardest to succeed.
My Project
Every Friday I give my students an opportunity to read books of interests, however, a lot of my students express to me that they just don't see anything they like. So I asked them, what are you interested in? What type of content do you like? I jotted down their responses and began my search for novels they requested and have the content that will pique their interest. My students seek novels they can relate to; I found those novels and I also sought novels they can learn from as well.
To celebrate Black history month, my students are going to create a project that they will present in front of their peers.
The books that are selected for this Donor's Choose project will supplement their learning and enhance their research.
