My Students

Skyscrapers everywhere and sometimes we forget that Houston actually has a very vibrant history!

My students here in Houston are a very diverse bunch.

They are from all over the place. We have a number of Hispanics, but also kids from Somalia, Sudan, Pakistan, Iraq, and India, to name a few. They live in a rough neighborhood where dropouts are common and most families are low-income or refugees. They do not get much experience outside of their neighborhood, and really not much experience outside of the house. Our school does not have the resources this year to help us fund many field trips. That's why we need your help!

My Project

We went to the Houston Heritage Museum last year (with last year's class) and had a spectacular time. It was very interesting to see how the people lived back in the old days. They were able to go into a log cabin, play with old toys, and learn a number of interesting facts about how people lived before us.

Our kids do not get many opportunities to step out of their neighborhood.

I know that their ability to see Houston and learn history about the city will deepen their interest in learning and their dedication to this community.
