Help Mrs. Broullire

I teach 10th grade DC History and 11th grade US History in a public charter high school in Southeast Washington, D.C. 100% of my students are African American. 95% of my students live in the area of the District most plagued by crime and poverty. However, our school truly believes in the potential of every student. 100% of our students get accepted to at least one college before graduating.

Our school does not have the money to buy a large amount of supplemental reading material for our students in DC History. Most of my students cannot read the DC History textbook either (it was written for college students), so I am always looking for extra resources and thinking of creative ways to present the material to my students. I'm also in desperate need of a place to work with students who are struggling with various skills and concepts. Pull out sessions would allow me to differentiate my instruction so I can meet the needs of each and every one of my students.

This is where you come in! The supplemental reading resources about Washington, D.C. History and a circular table with chairs will truly enhance classroom learning. The reading material will help the students learn about their city and help them with their culminating class project on neighborhoods of Washington, D.C. My students desperately need reading material that is challenging and appropriate to prepare them for college. This reading material will meet both of these goals. The table and chairs will allow me to do remediation with students who are struggling with concepts in class, and I can help the students who are on a lower reading level. Having the ability to do a pull out with these students will significantly enhance my students' performance in class.

Please help make this wish a reality and give them a chance to boost their literacy skills in order to prepare them for college and allow a place for students of similar ability levels to meet with me.
