My Project

Our students live in one of the most culturally diverse boroughs in New York City, and our school is located in the heart of the largest Chinatown in the city. When Lunar New Year approaches, Flushing, Queens transforms into a vibrant and spectacular celebration of culture and tradition!

Many of our families celebrate the Lunar New Year, and we want our classroom to reflect the beauty and traditions that our students experience at home.

This year, we are preparing to welcome the Year of the Snake with decorations, materials, and books that will help bring this important holiday to life in our classroom.

I am requesting decorations to transform our classroom into a festive space filled with symbols and traditions of Lunar New Year. I am also requesting red paper and materials for a family engagement event where children and their families can come together to create their own red envelopes to decorate and take home in time for the celebration. This hands-on activity will allow students to explore the meaning behind this special tradition while spending quality time with their families. At the end of the event, families will be presented with the Year’s mascot, a snake plush to take home and celebrate.

Our classroom should serve as both a window into the diverse cultures of our community and a mirror reflecting the traditions and experiences of our students. Your support will help us create an inviting space where our families feel seen, valued, and celebrated. Together, we can honor this meaningful tradition and make Lunar New Year an unforgettable experience for our students and their families.
