I am a special education teacher with students that have various learning needs. My students are creative, smart, curious, and fun-loving kids. My students come from diverse backgrounds, low-income households and have not had much experience with the world outside their urban community. They provide a special combination of linguistic diversity to my class. My school is a Title I school in a low-income community. Free breakfast and free lunch are offered to every child in our building every single day.
My Project
Juneteenth celebrates the liberation of African Americans who had been enslaved in the United States. These books celebrate the determination and strength of African Americans throughout history and give readers a comprehensive look at the history of Juneteenth.
I want to be able to provide my students with historical picture books that celebrate Juneteenth, African American history, and important moments in American history.
My students are learning remotely at home and have limited access to materials, including books. These books are an ideal way to expose them to various books on African American history. With your support, this project will provide my students with various books to help them develop listening skills and imagination as well as expand their knowledge of American history. Please help my students so that they may have access to these extraordinary books on African American history and culture to add to their personal library.
