Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have a deep and profound love for my students, which is only enhanced by the rich diversity of backgrounds they bring to the classroom, particularly the fact that many newcomers come from various Hispanic countries, including Mexico. This cultural tapestry enriches our learning environment and provides unique opportunities for us to celebrate and learn from one another. As such, I believe it is crucial to celebrate important cultural events like Cinco de Mayo in our school. Not only does this allow us to delve into the rich history and significance of Mexico's heritage, but it also provides a platform for all students to appreciate and respect the diversity within our community.

Celebrating Cinco de Mayo is particularly meaningful for our native and newcomer Mexican students, as it allows them to feel a sense of pride in their country's history and traditions.

By showcasing the historical significance of this day, we can foster a greater sense of cultural pride and identity among our students. Moreover, this celebration serves as a valuable educational opportunity for all students to learn about the contributions and history of Mexico, promoting cultural awareness and understanding, and allow our newcomers to feel at home for a day. We are requesting a variety of Cinco de Mayo decorations, including hats and necklaces for the students to dress up in and enjoy. We’re also requesting individual chips and salsa to eat after reading the book, “Chicks and Salsa.” Agua Fresca is a traditional Mexican beverage, and how fun to drink out of plastic glow in the dark colored glasses! The kids, especially our native students, will have so much fun and we hope to bring this celebration alive for them!

The fabric requested is to cover bookshelves in an effort to minimize visual stimuli for my autistic students.
