Celebrating Books, Culture, and a Special Author Visit!

Help me give my students their very own Astrid and Apollo book to celebrate a special author visit and see their Hmong culture reflected in joyful, relatable stories.

My Project

My students are incredible second graders who light up when they see themselves reflected in the books they read. Our classroom is full of learners who are curious, joyful, and proud of their identities.

Many of my students are Hmong and are growing up in a community that doesn’t always see their culture celebrated in mainstream media or literature.

This is why I’m so excited to share that we have an amazing opportunity: author V.T. Bidania, who is among and from Minnesota, is coming to visit our school! She’s the writer of the Astrid and Apollo chapter book series, which features Hmong-American twins on all kinds of relatable adventures—from fishing and dancing to wax museums and Tae Kwon Do.
