My Students

I am a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district where my students are faced with several obstacles both in and out of the classroom. Many of my students have parents that work two or more jobs. I believe that having a positive relationship with each family is vital for a student to succeed. I love to see my students smile when they have successes, nothing else compares to that feeling. My students will change the world!

My Project

I am requesting books that have characters that represent them. I want to ensure our classroom library includes a wide selection of choices for students of color.

It is very important for our students to see themselves depicted in books in a positive way.

Students often try and relate to the text they read and I believe it is not equitable if we do not provide books that they can relate to. I know that students will be excited, and eager to pick up these books.

We cannot move forward until we honor the diverse learners in out classrooms. Please help me better my classroom library.
