My Students

Have you ever gone to States in music or athletics, or been a part of an honor group at the district or state level? My students have the opportunity to try out for district and state honor choirs, but need a little help to be able to do their best.

My students love to sing.

They are great kids who wear their hearts on their sleeves. These are 6th and 7th graders, beginning their middle school lives. They still have the innocence of childhood, but the "teenage" world is opening up to them. In choir, they are able to express themselves through singing. Our school is a high-poverty school. The current economy has made an impact on our community. We don't have the resources to offer all of the materials that will make a difference.

My Project

I am requesting 100 recordable CDs with cases. With these CDs, the students will be more successful when auditioning for district and state honor choirs. I will be able to record the melodies and the accompaniments of the songs they are singing for auditions onto the CDs. The students will be able to take the CDs home and practice with the songs on their own time. My students will be able to learn the music quicker and more thoroughly.

The majority of my students do not play piano, so being able to practice with a CD of the songs will be a huge advantage for them.

By learning the honor choir music more thoroughly, they will have a greater chance of being accepted into the various honor choirs. Being a part of a district or state honor choir is an experience that will build their confidence and self-esteem for a lifetime.
