This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The 5th grade students at our school come from a variety of backgrounds. They are enthusiastic about learning and like many 5th graders, they are very social! They work hard and want to do their very best each day at school.
We are a Title One elementary school located in the museum district of Richmond, Virginia.
We enjoy the resources located close to our school. We are within walking distance of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Carytown, and Maymont Park. Our school has a long standing tradition of academic excellence. We have high expectations for all of our students. Our mission is all of our students will be college and career ready without exception or remediation.
My Project
Our students have been studying the Earth's History, rock cycles, and the Earth's layers. We want to travel to Luray Caverns to get closer to the Earth. Luray Caverns is cave with stalagmites and stalactites. The students will get a unique view inside the Earth's crust.
How cool would it be to go inside a cave?
This experience will be a long lasting memory for our students. This natural wonder offers many exciting components. Students will learn the history of the caverns. They will see rock formations that are millions of years old. They will hear a stalagmite organ. They will also see reflecting pools as clear as a mirror. This field trip will surely be amazing!
