My Students

The students in our class are motivated learners that press forward despite their hardships. They'll eventually improve with routines that encourage them to make their thinking visible, to confidently share their knowledge or thoughts without reserve, and to develop inquiring minds that are actively engaged throughout lessons and activities. Each student is heard, holds a classroom job, and leads intellectual discussions, assignments, or experiments regularly. They rely on each other, and on a loving, supportive setting to become resilient and to achieve success. I encourage confidence and trust in one another through our class motto: "We can do hard things! Climb, though the rocks be rugged!"

Every student matters, every moment counts.

My class of 30 students, mostly from low-income households, will require rigorous interventions to function on grade level by the end of this school year because of trauma, disruptive life events, and many already lacking essential skills. My third-grade class has several special needs, ESL, and below-grade level students enrolled. They all desire a safe haven for learning and to feel supported. We each hope to keep pressing onward, enjoy our precious journey, and ultimately realize our climb.

My Project

My students have needed a lot of intervention this year. The materials I've chosen will meet many needs of all of my students. They have emotional, reading, and mathematics intervention needs.

The books, games, and materials in this project will serve to motivate and inspire each other to better reach our potential.

Some of the books are just for fun. I have boys that require more motivation to read. I think having a "Bigfoot" box would serve this purpose. One of the students has managed to get the others interested in this topic. Other students are either struggling in math or need enrichment in math. The math games and materials will serve those needs as well. We also have emotional needs within the class. Some students have recently transitioned from homeschool to in-class learning. Having morning meetings and activities to help them feel more included and at ease is important too.
