This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My name is Ms. M., and I am a third-year teacher in Baltimore City. My 5th-grade classroom, which is in a small school located in Southwest Baltimore, thrives on student happiness and success. Each and every student who walks through our door brings his or her own set of inspirations and life experiences, and they inspire me every day to be the best I can be. About 86.3% of our students are on the free or reduced-price meal plan, and 25.2% are English Language Learners.

I wholeheartedly believe that every single one of my students has what it takes to be successful, and I am willing to try whatever it takes to get them where they need and WANT to be.

I love seeing our students, throughout the whole school, walk in with smiles on their faces, and I will try anything I can think of to ensure those smiles remain there. After all, school is all about learning and growing together.

My Project

Reading is one of the most important skills students learn in school and one that needs to be practiced every single day. I personally believe in practicing it daily for even a short amount of time. However, daily practice with a book that YOU choose yourself. While in school our students mostly only have access to the books that are in their specific teacher's library. Every year I have students asking me about specific books and I want to be able to deliver and stock my library full.

My goal every year is for my students to gain (or keep) a love of reading.

However, in order to do this, I need to be sure to have books that pertain to all audiences. That is why I decided to create this project (with more to come I am sure as new favorites are expressed). It is my hope that by obtaining a few books from authors collections that maybe students will fall in love with not just a book, but with an author, or genre and that will guide their reading journey farther.
