My Project

My senior mixed media art class is embarking on a meaningful project: crafting personalized dreamcatchers. To bring this project to life, we require a variety of supplies to allow students to fully express their creativity, such as hoops, thread, leather, feathers, beads, and charms. This project will empower students as they create tangible representations of their hopes and aspirations.

This project is particularly significant for graduating seniors as they stand on the cusp of a major life transition.

Weaving a dreamcatcher allows for introspection and reflection on their dreams for the future. Each knot and bead becomes a symbolic step toward their goals, providing an anchor as they navigate the uncertainties ahead. The repetitive and tactile nature of weaving will create a calming and meditative atmosphere within the classroom, offering a respite from the stresses of college and career decisions.

Beyond the symbolic value, constructing dreamcatchers fosters valuable skills in mixed media art, including spatial reasoning, fine motor coordination, and creative problem-solving. This hands-on activity encourages students to experiment with different textures and materials, promoting artistic exploration and individuality. By providing these supplies, you're not just supporting an art project but equipping students with a tool for self-expression and a lasting memento of their journey.
