I teach eighth grade English classes at Junior High School 189 in Queens. It's a great school, with wonderful students. But occasionally I find myself short on materials.
The school currently has only 15 copies of Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger. I have over 100 students.
This is my favorite book, and it is the book responsible for my love of reading. I'm very excited to introduce my students to Holden's perspective on the world, and hopefully, to show my students how wonderful an experience reading can be, and what a difference one book can make.
I am requesting 100 copies of Catcher in the Rye. These books would serve not only my current students, but year after year all future students. And since the teachers in my school share books, there's almost no limit to how many young minds may be touched by this donation.
