Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have personality. They are FUNNY.... but so many different types of funny. I have the sarcastic ones with GREAT come backs.... I especially love these students because middle school kids have an amazing sarcasm quality. They have met their match with me!! We laugh all the time; during lessons, one on one conversations, and in the halls. Next, I have my ONE LINER students. They deserve a drum set with cymbals so they can beat the cymbal every time they have a good one liner. I had a student tell me "Ms. Santora, you just "Steve Harveyed" us, in response to something I said, but then took back just like Steve did at the Miss America competition. Hilarious!! If we aren't laughing in my class, there is a problem. We are building love and community through our different senses of humor. We truly appreciate each other.

My Project

The calculators I am in search of will help support the Math students at our school. They will have to use these calculators all year, in class, to prepare them for the Common Core Math standards per grades. Although we live in a digital world where calculators can be found online, the state tests in April will not allow for this. The kids need to be taught how to use the calculator, how to use it to show work and transfer that work to paper.

Practicing with the necessary materials during the year will set these students up for success.

They deserve the opportunity to show what they can accomplish when given necessary materials to practice with.
