My Students

My school is home to hundreds of multilingual students from the Asia Pacific. As the English Learner Counselor, part of my job is to ensure that they receive the support they need to succeed in school. There are EL students in just about every class on our campus. They are a diverse group, some are newly-arrived, others are born and raised here. Some are from megacities of 100 million people, some are from small atolls with just a few hundred people. Their needs and strengths vary.

My Project

Our school is home to a large population of multilingual students from the Asia/Pacific region. My students range from newcomers to students who have immigrated within the last few years, most of them on distance learning throughout the last school year. Our EL teachers will use these books to incorporate their culture into writing lessons and these books will be used in other various assignments.

Providing literature in their classrooms that represent their culture connects them to our school and helps provide a sense of belonging.

We want our classrooms to be safe spaces that our students feel connected to after Covid-19 kept them out of school last year. These books will help to create these connections. By donating, you are helping to show our EL students that they belong and that their own stories are worthy of being celebrated.
