My Project

My favorite part of class each day is our opening - ten minutes of independent reading. We all read: students, myself, any special education teachers. It's a quiet, reflective time that gives everyone a moment of respite from the stress of a school day. Over the years, I've built a classroom library filled with engaging titles that students are excited to pick up.

Over the years, I've had many students say, "I thought I didn't like reading, but this feels how it used to when I was younger and I was so excited to read for fun." There are few things I love to hear more!

Having a warm, inviting, cozy classroom is key for setting an environment in which kids feel excited and secure enough to delve into a book. These rugs will help make the room feel more like home, and will let kids feel like they're stepping outside of the stress and urgency of their school environment and instead in a space that will foster exploration, safety, and relaxation.
