My Students

Every morning we sit on the floor and share our "headline news"; that is something they would like to share with the class before starting the day. Then the students stay on the floor and listen to a read aloud. I want my students to be able to ask and answer complex questions based on a text.

I work in a NEST classroom.

My students consist of general educational students, and students who are on the autism spectrum. The general education students are social role models for the children with autism. The children with autism share their knowledge and creativity with the class. They enjoy learning new facts.

My Project

The children would sit on the carpet as they are listening to a book. They will ask and answer questions based on the story. The will learn to use details and expand on their comprehension skills. They will also partner read on the carpet. They will ask and answer each others questions while reading a grade level text.

The children will have a comfortable place to sit during the read aloud.

They will also improve in keeping their personal space since they will each have a square to sit on. This will create an easier place for the children to turn and share with their partner as they answer questions based on a story.
