Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are an international Title I high school in the South Bronx. My students are learning Historic Preservation through the lenses of construction.

Students gain valuable skills that they will use for the rest of their lives.

Some of my students learn how to work in a live shop, safety is my main concern. The coveralls in my cart will encourage student to participate more willingly because they will not have to worry about their school clothes getting dirty. Coveralls will also prevent students from getting injuries.

One of my goals this year is for each student to have all their personal protective equipment when they enter the historic preservation lab, each student will be able to get their own safety glasses, gloves, and hard hat.

Being able to provide students with their own safety equipment will reduce injuries and promote safety which they will carry into their careers.

While some of my students go onto college to be an Engineer, most students move right into an apprentice program or directly into the construction workforce. If I am able to construct life size projects in school while using the tools and supplies that are in my cart our students will have the opportunity to be more prepared after graduating high school to be productive in their communities.
