My Students

I would like my diverse group of student leaders to share their unique life experiences with others. They will be motivated to share their stories and ultimately improve the climate at our school.

Our school is very diverse.

We have students from all over the world at our school. We have over 17 languages spoken in our students' home, various religions, customs, traditions, etc. Although the students generally all get along, at lunch time they seem to separate into their racial/cultural groups. My social leaders in Student Problem Identification and Resolution Improvement Team (S.P.I.R.I.T.) are learning to make a difference on our campus. They would like students to get to know more about each other and their various cultures.

My Project

These SPIRIT students would like to take photos of their home life and share these photos with each other. Next students would like to write about their home life/culture. Each week they would like to highlight one student by displaying their photos and story (essay) in the display case in our main courtyard. By donating memory cards, flash drives and one camera to our school students will be able to better understand how other students at our school live. A deeper understanding of and appreciate for culture should be gained from participating in these photo essay projects and the discussions that will follow. I know that my students will be excited to document their realities. This will provide them an opportunity to share things with each other visually that they may not be able to otherwise imagine.

Our class was fortunate enough to receive 3 new cameras from alumni.

The new cameras did not come with memory cards. We would also like to request three flash drives (the computer situation at our school is very sad and this will help students save work and print) and one additional Kodak easy share digital camera to help capture and share their culture with others as well as to document and share our accomplishments!
