I am a middle school computer art teacher. I currently teach computer art to 400 students per week. In my class, we create digital paintings, graphic designs, and digital collages using Adobe Photo Shop Elements. I also teach a special 8th grade yearbook class.

The computer lab that I teach my students in is also 7 year old . Many of the computers are broken, and we don’t have the money to fix or replace them. Many of my students do not have access to computers, scanners, or digital cameras at home. The only opportunity they have to create meaningful artwork is when they come to my classroom. My students do not have access to a scanner. If they want to scan pictures or artwork, I have to do it for them from my home. If we need to scan 200 baby pictures for the yearbook, I have to do it from home. Students are never given the opportunity to learn how to use a scanner.

All of my students this year and for years after would really benefit from receiving a scanner for the computer art lab. They will be able to scan their own photos and artwork that we can use for the yearbook.

Having access to all types of technology will help my students achieve their goals. Having access to a scanner will give my students the opportunity to learn how to scan photographs and artwork and also help to better prepare them for a future career in the graphic arts field.
