My Students

"All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better," Emersion said, and I vow to make that possible for my students. They will build an understanding of renewable energy and conservation by branching hands-on learning and documenting the process with technological resources.

My students are intelligent, hard-working, inventive, and strong-willed individuals.

They are timid when thinking of the future because many do not know what that entails. Will they follow in their father's footsteps and become a fisherman, or work on the ferry? Will they go to college, or even finish high school? These students attend a K-8 school in a small coastal fishing town. The student population consists of 125 students total. The school building itself has been in use for over 100 years, weathering hurricanes and time. Many of their family members have graced the halls before them, and you can feel the history within the walls. However, what history will my students leave for future generations, as well as, their own futures?

My Project

The resources requested for the renewable energies study are completely necessary for student understanding. I make an effort to involve the lifestyle and community of my students, and living on the coast most spend a great amount of time on boats. Many of my students already have an understanding of boat motors and their need for fossil fuels, but what about posing the idea of building a boat motor using only solar energy, and what might the outcome mean for the community and its lifestyle as a whole. I plan on my students to document the process of learning by using video and digital images, while creating an online how-to demonstration/documentation for others to benefit from their learning process.

The donations will make a difference for my students today and many years to come.

I have several students with learning disabilities, many of the students benefit from active learning. These activities included in the kits are to help build confidence in themselves and to push them towards a successful future.
