Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Representation matters, and I believe in providing my students with opportunities to see themselves reflected in their work and their community. I am excited to lead the Black Girls United club at Frick United Academy of Languages in Oakland, California, where my students are working on creating a school-wide magazine that celebrates student voices, highlights achievements, and fosters a strong sense of community.

These tools will not only help the Black Girls United club create an inspiring magazine, but they will also be used in my 7th and 8th grade science classes to document fun experiments, record classroom activities, and capture special events instantly.

Additionally, the video camera will assist me in completing important teaching assessments like the edTPA.

This project is about more than just equipment—it’s about empowering students to express themselves, take pride in their work, and preserve memories that will last a lifetime.

My students are a vibrant, diverse group of 6th, 7th and 8th graders who bring creativity, curiosity, and a desire to be seen and heard. Many come from underrepresented backgrounds and don’t often have access to projects that allow them to explore media, journalism, and digital storytelling. Through the Black Girls United club and classroom activities, they’ll gain valuable experience in writing, photography, and design—all while developing their voices and confidence.

Your generosity will empower my students to tell their own stories, celebrate their identities, and take pride in their school community. By supporting this project, you’re helping students develop valuable skills in photography, media production, and journalism while giving them the tools to preserve memories.
