Capturing Everyone's Reaction

Help me give my students a quick meaningful way to connect during our virtual school lessons this fall by providing all students with a marker board and a marker.

My Students

My students range in age from five to twelve and attend an urban PK-8 elementary school. When school is in session, students in our school visit the library once a week and they love to check out books. My students love learning new things and sharing what they have learned with others. As they start their first quarter they need whiteboards and markers to be able to communicate and make connections during their Google Meet Video Lessons.

Many of those students have come to the US in the last couple of years from places such as Syria, Nigeria, and Nepal.

My students come from a variety of backgrounds with many different levels of exposure to computers. My school is one of the most diverse schools in our city. My students are amazing!

My Project

Students at my school are going to be on-line this fall. They are going to be on-line a lot. Many of my students are young and many are learning English for the first time. Further, many of the students are low income and their families are not going to be able to provide additional school supplies. All of my students would benefit from having a marker board and a marker so that they can respond quickly to questions, conversations, and lessons without all having to navigate the chat feature. The low tech approach of having white boards during a high tech educational setting where most of them will have their cameras on during the lesson will provide a quick way for students to feel connected. Students will be able to use these marker boards and markers for all of their classes (not just library).

Students love to share what they have learned with their teacher and classmates.

Lessons where I read a story and they draw a picture of their favorite part, rating a book from 1 to 10, flipping their board with the answer to the question, the possibilities are endless for ways that these marker boards and markers can be used during their virtual days. As most of my classes have around 25 students this will allow me to interact with them all at the same time. Even if our school is able to transition back to being in the physical classroom this year I am positive that I will still be able to use these tools with my classes.
