This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My students are constantly telling stories. They craft beautiful stories about their families, pets, playdates and videogames. I have a culturally diverse group of students who share about their foods, travels and experiences. These materials will allow them to share their stories on a broader scale, honor their cultural backgrounds and increase their authentic writing skills.

The polaroid camera will be used to capture pictures of food practices at home and to initiate conversations about family recipes and the history and practices surrounding them.

Students will write about their family food traditions and then share with the class and the school community.
