Located in the zoological gardens, I have the unique opportunity to teach math in one of Buffalo's most exciting science magnet schools for 7th and 8th graders whose minds may one day shape the world.

My students are interested in many interdisciplinary projects that involve the zoo which they visit a few times a week. It is difficult for the families of the students and visitors in the building to see the exciting educational experiences the students are part of at the Buffalo Zoo.

As I am sure you can recall at the age of 12 math class was not always the most exciting and as a teacher it is difficult to relate math to the outside world from the classroom. With a digital camera the class and I can take pictures of the zoo and I will be able to show how math can relate in the environment that the students spend their day in.

As I am sure all are aware of the problems that educators face in teaching youth these days. With this contribution I will be able to bring education with a more modern touch into the classroom. This will allow me to relate captured events that the students see in the zoo and bring them into the classroom and relate to it during the school year. Thank you for your time and consideration in regards to the students that may one day find a career path in the sciences based on this one small gift.
