My Students

Ever dig out your 8th grade yearbook? It's full of pictures reminding you of those not-so-nice fashions, wonderful friends, and old teachers. Help me to create those memories for my students!

My students really are a great bunch of kids.

They come and work everyday after school on our yearbook to produce an end-product that they are proud of! The yearbook is entirely student-made. To see the hard work, pride, and effort they put into this yearbook is truly astonishing. Coming from an inner-city, low-income neighborhood in southeastern Pennsylvania, they have a tremendous work ethic. The school is a local K-8 elementary school, and the yearbook features the 8th graders as "heads" of the school!

My Project

This resource (digital camera) will help the creators of the yearbook, my 8th grade students, to capture memories from throughout the school year and place them into the yearbook. Our yearbook is created solely online through a program, so the digital camera is essential in taking pictures. It is always fun, as an adult and as a teen, to go back to your old yearbook and relive the memories, and that is what my students are trying to accomplish.

This project is important because inner-city children sometimes have little to celebrate, and to relive their 8th grade memories for the rest of their lives would be so enriching.

Being a part of the yearbook committee helps to build strong work ethic in students, and they really take ownership of the end product.
