Can you imagine being a student in fourth grade and reading at a second grade level with no reading materials accessible to you in your own classroom? I am a special education teacher who is fortunate enough to teach students with various needs in fourth grade. This is my first year at my brand new school and I feel so blessed to have been granted this opportunity to teach these students who in our first meeting warmed my heart and soul.

My students have shown a lack of interest in reading due to their struggles. I would like to be given the opportunity to provide my students with choices and reading material geared towards their individual interests.

Some of my students face vision difficulties on top of their other learning needs. Since I like to use picture books to teach reading strategies I believe having big books at my disposal would benefit their learning experience tremendously! The leveled readers would provide students opportunities to read independently in the classroom at their own level. Students may even choose to partner read which will ultimately boost the classroom morale as well as student confidence. The leveled novels would allow me to expose students to their instructional levels which will assist me in strengthening their vocabulary and comprehension skills.

Your support in this project would mean the world to my students and I. This is my first full-time position and I want to provide my students with as many opportunities as I possibly can to read and learn to love picking up books and becoming lost in them! With your donations you will be encouraging and supporting my students in becoming lifelong readers!
