My Students

My students are learning to trust their creative instincts and develop critical thinking skills. Every day, we build more and more successes in the art room! I teach art to K-8 students in a wonderful, large urban school with limited resources.

As I have been teaching the same students for several years, it has been very exciting to see their growth over time.

I love working with such amazing problem solvers and creative thinkers! My student population is around 715 students who come from a wide variety of backgrounds, culturally and geographically. My students speak 19 different languages!

My Project

This year, a major focus in my art room is connecting with my students' families in order to share student achievements and milestones with them. I have had the privilege of working with the same students for a few years now and have seen tremendous growth with these students. I am so excited to share this growth with my students' families, and have a few ideas on how to do so. In addition to sending work home, submitting student art to contests and art shows, and displaying art in the halls at the school, my students will be sharing their work on artsonia this year!

My third through eighth grade students will be taking photos of their own completed work using the iPads, stands and cases, and will post their work to an online Artsonia portfolio.

Younger students will submit work with my assistance. On Artsonia, a student's family and anyone else that a parent or guardian allows will be able to see that student's art as they complete projects, motivating students to work hard and take ownership over their own artmaking! We will also be able to track student growth as students submit their own work over time! Through Artsonia, students, their families, and our school community will have a wonderful opportunity to connect over artwork!
