Captain Underpants to the Rescue!

My students need 60+ book series titles, including selections from "Captain Underpants", "Encyclopedia Brown" and "Magic School Bus" books.

I teach third grade students reading, writing, spelling, social studies, science, and math.

Problem = third grade kids who would rather have a tooth pulled than pick up a book voluntarily. There are those kids for whom reading is a bit of a challenge, therefore not high on the list of “things that I really want to do today.”

Solution = Captain Underpants and friends! Yes, Captain Underpants, by author Dav Pilkey, has launched many a non-reader on the path to literary enjoyment. The purpose of this project is to upgrade my third grade class library with titles that even the most reluctant reader cannot resist. Captain Underpants leads the pack along with Geronimo Stilton, Ghostville Elementary School, Time Warp Trio, and other high interest, age appropriate books at a variety of reading levels. By having a wide range of choices from which to choose, my goal is to help those reluctant readers feel comfortable and confident enough to take the plunge into reading for enjoyment. In addition, this project will add greater variety for those students who are ready for a greater challenge. More reading equals better reading, a benefit for students of all levels.

With your help my class will have a library that will meet the individual reading needs of every student....one book at a time!
