My Students

The children of our school are bright, inquisitive, and full of energy. Our Montessori model allows my children to flourish in many different areas, without them feeling different because of their abilities. They learn through hands-on activities, so everyone learns in their own way. The classroom is a happy community. Students are focused on time management activities and accountability activities. They take joy in their work. They invent, explore, experiment, confer, create, prepare snacks, and curl up with books; sometimes they might even reflect in a peaceful, meditative corner.

Older children are seen as role models within the community in our multiple-aged classroom.

They support the growth and development of younger children through socialization, assisting with new work, or teaching skills they have mastered themselves.

At any time that you may visit, you will see children engaged in multiple activities, anything from partner reading, story writing, play rehearsal to using math manipulatives or science experiments.

My Project

Why is my normal, on-grade-level child falling behind when they can read? When children move to 4th grade and above the books change. They become more complex without telling the children. Main idea? Yes, more than one. Confusing titles and headings? Yes, for every section of the book. These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. The nonfiction books allow us to explore complex nonfiction, while the fiction is rich with meanings between and beyond the words. Without learning the skills to decode words children will fall behind as they grow. Help me allow our children to continue to grow.
