My Students

I teach at a school where 95% of my children receive free or reduced lunch. Each year teachers get money to get supplies for their classroom. There is some money to purchase books for the media center but it is never enough to get all of the books that the students have requested.

After 19 years in the classroom I switched to our new media specialist.

As much as I loved teaching in the classroom I love my new position. One of the biggest challenges as media specialist is providing my students with the books they want to read. We keep a list in the library of all the books they would like to read.

My Project

My students need multiple copies of books for the library. My older students have been reading the book Among the Hidden for their EBOB (Elementary Battle of the Books) competition. This has become one of the most checked out books in our library. This book is one of seven in a series. Now I have a long list of kids that want to read the next book in the series Among the Imposters. Recently, the movie Wonder came out in the theaters. Students have been so excited to read the book. However, we only have two copies of the book in our media center. One of our new favorite series is the Bad Guys series. We have all of the books in this series except for the last one. My students keep asking when we are going to get the latest book.

My students would be so excited to get these new chapter books for our media center.

It is my goal to get as many of the requested books as possible for my students. I love watching their faces when we get new books in the media center. They get so excited and can't wait to go back and tell their friends that the books have arrived. I am trying hard to create an environment where students love coming to the library to get their next book.
