Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 6th grade students are a diverse, accepting, and curious group of children!

This school year, I am fortunate enough to have students with varied interests and strengths in all kinds of topics: sports, math, comics, history, ecology, superheroes, mythology; the list goes on and on!

It's great to see that they can be curious about so many different genres -- it makes it all the more fun when they can share with each other and provide recommendations.

Our small K-8 school in the Bronx has had its fair share of challenges with remote learning, nonetheless, we have managed to bring our students back to school as safely as possible, while making sure to reinforce personal connections, support their emotional well-being, and look for any opportunity to help them feel welcome and appreciated!

My Project

I want to see my students get excited about picking up books this year! Every day, we read as a group, with partners, and independently. By having various copies of different books, students will be able to choose titles that call out to them, they will be able to read with a partner and discuss their ideas about a book, and they will be able to continue reading on their own, as they will be completely wrapped up in our literary worlds.

Books are the soul of any classroom!

My students deserve to have a classroom library that reflects their own personalities, interests, backgrounds, and identities. It would be amazing to have them pick up a book that could possibly resonate with them for many years to come, and spark a true love of reading.
