Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We all come from different cultural backgrounds, but we are together for one purpose, to best embody the life here at GHS. GHS is a school of over 2,300 students who represent over 200 spoken languages in the home, with students from every corner of the globe. Students from so many differing backgrounds and possessing so many different gifts come together as a school united by a common vision of excellence and with strong ties to the community.

My yearbook class is filled with passionate journalists, graphic designers, marketers, and photographers all working together to create an authentic vision of GHS, including comprehensive coverage of all students.

They are inspired by their classmates, and want to create a memory for them that truly shows the uniqueness of their school.

There are 27 students in my class who all bring their own spin on life at GHS, we have members of the football team, volleyball team, homecoming court, dance team, students in the International Baccalaureate program, members of ROTC, GSA, and the film society. We have students from the United States, El Salvador, Honduras, Ghana, and Mexico. We are all driven, passionate, inquisitive, creative and most importantly a team.

My Project

These incredible students unfortunately, are paired with less than adequate equipment. We are currently working with 7-15 year old cameras, many of which are essentially non-operational. All result in blurry images and make photographing sporting events and other action packed happenings practically impossible. This deficit of quality equipment does not only effect this year's publication, but all future publications.

Your donation will allow us to document the unique memories at GHS for years to come, and help train the next generation of journalists, graphic designers, and photographers.

Our school's, and yearbook's budget is tight, and every expenditure directly effects the cost of the yearbook to students. The cost is already a luxury to a great deal of students and families with many of my students working jobs to help. So the cost of these two cameras would directly effect the ability of many students to obtain yearbooks for years to come. For that reason my class is reaching out for help.

We are asking for funding for two DSLR cameras with lens kits, which would allow my students access to quality images, and make our yearbook into the unique, inclusive, quality publication it can be. It will allow my students the opportunity to learn the basics of camera manipulation and let us capture the memories of the students, sports, clubs, and activities that make GHS such an incredible school. Please help support these amazing students become the best journalists, photographers, and graphic designers they can be! Be a part of securing these memories for generations to come for all of the 2,300 students at GHS!
