My Students

Everyday I greet students with a hug and a smile at the door. We start off with "circle" time. Students are able to express their feelings in a circle. This technique helps with the social/emotional aspect in their lives. We engage in rich text that helps with reading, writing, and expressing ideas.

My students have numerous social/emotional challenges.

They are students who are products of generational poverty, but every day strive to do their best. They are children who are always wanting more, and never allow their challenges to prevent them from learning, and striving to be all that they can be. My scholars are very outspoken, and enjoy having their voices heard. I call them the "great debaters" because they would rather verbally complete tasks with groups versus independent practices on a worksheet. They all enjoy hands-on learning. They love for their work to be displayed around the school or on bulletin boards. Our school is such a family-oriented environment. Every staff member takes responsibility for each child's well being. It is never "my students" it is always "our students." I love that everyone ensures that every student feels safe, loved, and appreciated. From the lunch room staff to the principal, everyone allows their presence to be felt and known.

My Project

My scholars are eager to take pictures of their classwork/projects, and school functions. Their science fair is coming up, and none of my students have cell phones or cameras to take pictures. They really want memories of their 4th grade year, and have requested that I make them a memory book at the end of the year. Many of my scholars are a part of the cheer leading and basketball team. When attending these functions it is very difficult to take quality pictures of their talents. Students have also requested that they have a classroom photographer to take candid photographs of their peers working and engaging in hands-on projects for them to display on our school website. Numerous academic fairs are coming up, and students will be able to have their pictures taken during the Science and Social Studies fair. We recently received a new Science lab, and students spend 3-4 days a week in the lab. Students are eager to have their findings and investigations documented through photos.

I am certain that a new high quality digital camera will give my students memories that will last a lifetime.

They work extremely hard to be the best that they can be and would make learning so much more fun if they could see their work documented through pictures. They will be able to have a memory book at the end of the school year that has documented their 4th grade year. This donation will also allow students to get an experience of being a photographer by taking pictures of their peers.
