Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Technology makes it possible to open up a whole new world of learning for students. It is important that my students experience learning in different ways to meet their diverse learning needs. Using technology has shown to be an effective way to make this happen.

As a special education teacher, I work with students in the Resource Specialist Program in an urban, public elementary school.

The students have various learning needs and abilities as a result of their mild to moderate disabilities. With my help they are able to get the extra support they need while also being part of a general education classroom, where they are able to interact and learn with their age and grade-level peers.

My Project

Because my students have diverse needs and learning styles, they need to be exposed to learning in different ways. Technology enables me to engage them in meaningful learning experiences. The students are able to see what I see as I am presenting the information to them in various ways. The students can also be involved in the presentation. Utilizing a document camera, with an LCD projector, can be effective in capturing students' attention as well as making the input more memorable. I have seen students enthusiastically respond to the use of a document camera, whether it is used to show the pages of a text we are reading, the steps for a math problem, or a model or demonstration. They also get excited when they see their own work proudly displayed and shared with the class.

I am certain that a document camera will have a positive impact on my teaching and my students' learning.

Integrating this technology into lessons will not only enhance the instruction, it will enable students to be involved. I look forward to using this valuable teaching tool with my students.
