As the Arts Coordinator for our Brooklyn elementary school, I am always in search of ways to enhance the core curriculum through the arts. Our school is located in the East New York section of Brooklyn, and serves 834 students, with 95% of them eligible for free lunch. We have been using the arts to reach some of our difficult students and have found it to be successful. To help build critical thinking skills, we recently acquired a video camera which will be used to video tape student performances and rehearsals, so that students can review and analyze their work, allowing them to identify problems, assess them, and present solutions. To complete this process, we are requesting the donation of a television with built-in VCR/DVD (TV/VCR/DVD Combo).
As technology improves, many changes come about. While we do have some memories captured on VHS, DVDs are being used more now. We will therefore need a unit that accommodates both VHS and DVD.
As the spring nears, we hope to be able to use this equipment to prepare for our "Spring Concert". The equipment will be used by all of our classes as well as for sharing at PTA meetings, etc.
