My Project

Every day, I have the privilege of being able to see two dozen smiling students, eager and ready to learn. I teach in an urban school with students from a wide range of backgrounds. After over a year and a half of distance and hybrid learning, we are thrilled to be back in the classroom in person. Providing appropriate tools to reach students where they are is more important than ever!

Displaying mentor texts, showing digital media, and celebrating student work are all integral to our day-to-day learning.

One desperately needed resource to help make this happen is a new document camera. Unlike the overhead projectors of the past, a document camera allows a variety of media to be placed underneath and projected for a group to see. Picture books, student writing pieces, and math workbook pages are all materials we use and share daily. Our current document camera is not particularly effective at capturing crisp, clear images, so it is hard for students to see what I am sharing with them. A new document camera will allow all students to see peers modeling how to use a protractor to measure angles, or an incredible introduction a student wrote in their fantasy fiction story. I will be able to show students science experiments, maps, and passages in our read aloud. All these opportunities lead to improved engagement and academic success.
