My Students

Can we skype today? I hear this request everyday. My students love to talk to other classes in our school and our local high school. Virtually visiting classes helps to prepare them for the diverse transition my seventh and eighth graders will soon face. Can we skype today? YES with new webcams!

I teach seventh graders--soon to be eighth graders as they like to say--in a very poor socio-economic neighborhood.

My students have very few life experiences beyond our small county. They are full of life and excitement and an eagerness to grow up. Like most middle schoolers, one minute they are teenagers and the next they want to go to recess. They are incredibly funny, interesting, and frustrating at times. They are great kids. I want to open up the world for them.

My Project

The possibilities are endless. With web cameras we can go anywhere from the comfort of our own desks. Collaborating with other classes on projects, holding book talks with a class across the district, meeting their future teachers, all of these activities are possible with new web cams. Students who haven't been out of the county lines can be transported halfway across the world.

Web cams can help us bridge the gap and unite students who have very few commonalities.

Having students become more comfortable with people of different origins, backgrounds, ethnicities, etc., will greatly impact my students lives' positively.
