This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Yes, my English learners (ELLs) have apps and software on electronic devices to learn English. Yes, my students are delighted to learn English through technology. HOWEVER, they cannot hear English in their learning programs clearly when everyone is practicing listening and speaking at the same time.

My ESL group consists of students from kindergarten to 8th grade who speak English as a second language.

Every year, there are newcomers, who are fresh off the boat, joining my ESL classroom. Despite their English proficiency, they are always enthusiastic to come to school to learn. They do not only want to develop their academic knowledge, but also want to practice their daily use of English in order to make friends and communicate in English.

My Project

These headphones I am asking for are essential tools for my ELLs to practice listening and speaking English through language programs on electronic devices. Language programs, such as Rosetta Stone and Quizlet.com, are available for my ELLs. My students can listen to native speakers of English and repeat sounds, words, phrases and sentences.

With these headphones, my ELLs can isolate the sounds their classmates make and pay closer attention to the speakers in the programs.

In other words, they can hear the English pronunciation more clearly, thus, imitating the correct pronunciation. They do not have to worry about saying words loudly what may disturb others since everyone will have a headphone on. They can immerse themselves in the language programs and keep practicing.
