LES is located in the middle of a low-income area. Sixty-three% of our students are considered economically disadvantaged. Despite these challenges, the students come to school daily and try their best. Financial disadvantage leads to many issues, but there is one that is of utmost importance to me. Many of our students do not have a regular health care provider, regular health screenings, and only see a doctor for emergency visits. The school nurse is often the only healthcare professional they encounter. Therefor it is very important to have good screening equipment available. Identifying vision and hearing difficulties early allows these students to get the help they need to be now successful in school and later in life.
My Project
With the funding, I am planning to purchase a new audiometer for my school. I currently have a 30+ year old audiometer that is at the end of its functional life. I only have the one device that is shared to screen 1000 students in two schools. Our current budget does not allow me to purchase big ticket price items.
An audiometer will enable me to provide prompt, accurate hearing screenings to detect any potential hearing deficits.
Please help me to fund this necessary screening tool to help our students thrive and to be successful. Thank you
