My Students

It's no fun for students to come to the computer lab all prepared to visit educational websites only to be disappointed by the muffled sounds coming through outdated headphones.

My inner-city elementary students thrive off of technology and thoroughly enjoy working with computers.

They come from hard working families who try to meet their needs, but unfortunately a home computer is not always in the budget. For several of my students, their weekly visit to my lab is their only interaction with computers, which is why it's essential that I make the most of these visits. The students want and need to experience every aspect of computers so they can be better prepared to function in this digital world.

My Project

Students from Pre-school through 6th grade visit my computer lab therefore my lessons can address several topics. However, regardless of the grade, headphones will enhance every lesson. Kindergartners who need to practice phonics can interact with a website where they can hear the individual letter sounds and improve their reading skills. A 3rd grader who is studying poetry can listen to famous poets for inspiration. A 6th grader who is studying Egypt can visit a website and listen to the language and music of the culture. Even a student who just needs help creating a science fair board can watch a How To video to get them started. The Internet is a vast source of information but it's usefulness is diminished when you can't hear what's going on.

By donating to this project, you will enhance the technology experiences for over 800 inner-city students by providing them the opportunity to effectively hear and interact with educational websites.
