Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am so privileged to have been given the opportunity to loop with my Kindergarten students from last year. These first graders are eager to come to school everyday to socialize, learn math and read, read, read. This group of students is helpful and kind to each other. They have a passion for reading fictional texts and greatly enjoy sitting back to listen to a good read aloud and using digital resources. Students in first grade make tremendous growth in academic reading levels. Reading at home for 15 minutes shows progress in vocabulary, word solving and comprehension.

My Project

My first grade students are working on becoming digital citizens. We are in need of headphones and holders to successful participate and be engaged in digital resources that we assign throughout the day. My students are in a Title 1 school and sometimes lack the funds or resources to buy such pricey items. Headphones and lap desks will allow my students the choice to engage in activities that will keep them focused, engaged and motivated. By allowing them to choice where to sit, students feel empowered to participate. These headphones will be used by students daily across all subject areas during literacy centers, math stations, and writing activities. Using online educational websites helps to differentiate student instruction based on their needs. Given the fact that a large population of students are English Language Learners, the opportunity to engage in listening further helps to enrich their learning experience and hasten language acquisition. Since students work on activities within close proximity, headphones helps them to stay on task and not distract one another.
