My Students

My second graders are voracious readers! They love to read both fiction and nonfiction books. Their favorite characters include Pete the Cat, Fly Guy, Piggie and Elephant, and Mercy Watson. They also love to read about insects, space, and plants. My students are hungry bookworms! They are eager to learn and read about the world around them. My class is made up of general education students, children with special needs, and English as new language students.

My students love to be at school and are like little sponges, absorbing everything around them.

Their parents work long hours and usually do not see their children. The children are usually cared for by their grandparents or a family friend. Most of them do not have someone who speaks English at home. Thus, it is difficult for students to acquire the English language.

Due to financial hardships, my students do not have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities during the school year or summer.

My Project

Since mask-wearing is mandated in my second grade classroom, it can negatively affect my students’ learning if they cannot hear me through my mask. One way I can address this issue is by using a portable voice amplifier with a wireless microphone. The voice amplifier will project my voice loudly and clearly. This will ensure that ALL the students in my classroom can adequately hear me during instructional time. Due to classroom set up restrictions, it also becomes necessary to have the tools necessary to build shelves, install hooks, and hang boards so more floor space is available in the classroom.
