My Students

I teach fourth and fifth-grade Title I reading in one of the best rural schools in Oklahoma. My students are a diverse group with varying levels of learning that are pulled out daily to learn new reading skills in our reading intervention lab. Our classroom is a space where students enjoy coming to learn. We are a Title I school with the majority of our students receiving free lunch.

Many of my students do not have home internet access and are struggling with keeping invested in their distance learning programs.

They love to read, and many have requested assistance to help them stay on top of their skills during this time at home. Although we cannot meet in person, the next best thing will be for me to provide them engaging opportunities to use at home now and throughout the summer.

My students have curiosity, creativity, compassion, and positive attitudes. They are truly amazing people. Together, we will make the most out of this situation and continue to make learning fun!

My Project

Having a set of headphones would allow my students and assistant Title I teachers to be more productive in our virtual learning situations. They need the security of knowing that they can hear and be heard as they participate in our lessons.

Some of our Chromebooks are very difficult to hear, and these headphones will enable my assistant teachers and students to be able to interact with each other more effectively.

Nothing is more frustrating than not knowing what is going on! My students are already dealing with the emotional turmoil of returning to class amid the fears of contracting the virus. These tools will help them feel more secure and capable as they enter the world of digital lessons. Alleviating the concerns of not being able to hear the teacher will help them be more focused on what they are learning.

The students could use the headphones while working on the programs on Google Classroom and when reading and listening to digital books.

We also use the EPIC book program to access books since we aren't allowed to share books due to COVID. The headphones will help them be able to work with a variety of levels of books, listening as they follow along.

These headphones will enhance their overall learning experience and make learning more fun!
