My students are fighting for a better world for themselves and their families. I teach at a Title I school where many students face extensive daily challenges, including homelessness, illnesses, poverty, changing family situations, learning disabilities, a community growing from rural to suburban, learning English as a teenager, etc. Despite these challenges, they are eager to fit in, learn, and be successful. My students come from all walks of life. They are cute, funny, resourceful, shy, outgoing, compassionate, creative, messy, and even tidy, but each uniquely individual. Each student is striving to be the best version of whatever they are.
We are a class of sixth graders that are eager to learn, but each persons learning path is individual and unique.
My Project
I always try to create an optimal learning environment with high-quality experiences in my classroom. However, our classroom has a limited supply of headphones to share. Students do not always bring their own which limits students ability to focus and work productively with minimal distractions
With headphones, students can focus on their own work—remediating, practicing, or exploring more deeply—without distracting or being distracted by others.
Students will be able to use learning programs such as I-ready, Khan Academy, LEXIA, & MyOn, not to mention many other math, STEM, and literacy programs. Hearing well allows students to better interact with each other and the technology. It will minimize distractions and help students to focus on their own learning.
The ability to use appropriate technology leads to higher functioning adults both socially and professionally. The headphones of today, will let them experience new technology and develop analytic computer skills while learning math, STEM projects, phonics, word study, and reading comprehension.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
